Congratulating Sarah Evanega on Winning the 2021 Borlaug CAST Communication Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Farm Journal Foundation would like to congratulate Dr. Sarah Evanega of Cornell University on winning 2021 Borlaug CAST Communication Award.

Dr. Evanega is the founding director of the Cornell Alliance for Science, a global communications effort that promotes evidence-informed decision-making across a range of science issues. The initiative has trained 800 people in 50 countries with innovative, progressive tools for communicating effectively about agricultural science. Since its founding in 2014, the Alliance has become a credible source for information, as well as an effective tool for combatting misinformation that often accompanies science issues.

“Dr. Evanega is a pioneer in agricultural science communication and a role model for other young professionals,” said Tricia Beal, CEO of Farm Journal Foundation. “Her work has been significant in creating a platform for people to speak up in support of accessing agricultural technologies.”

Dr. Evanega is research professor in the Department of Global Development with a joint appointment in the School of Integrative Plant Science in the College of Agriculture at Cornell, as well as an adjunct faculty member at the Boyce Thompson Institute. She received her Ph.D. in Plant Biology from Cornell in 2009.

The Borlaug CAST Communication Award is presented annually by the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) for outstanding achievement by a scientist, engineer, technologist, or other professional working in the agricultural, environmental, or food sectors in contributing to the advancement of science in the public policy arena. Farm Journal Foundation is a proud sponsor of the award.
