Foundation Launches Andrew J. Weber Global Food Security Fellows Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. (OCT. 9, 2024) Farm Journal Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of the Andrew J. Weber Global Food Security Fellows Program to support students and educators working to address global hunger and nutrition security issues.

The new program, created to honor Andy Weber, whose vision initiated the founding of Farm Journal Foundation in 2011 and who retired as President and CEO of Farm Journal Media in 2023, will provide students with a range of learning opportunities and chances to engage directly with leaders in the food supply chain. As part of this program, fellows will travel to the Norman E. Borlaug International Dialogue at the World Food Prize in Des Moines, Iowa, in October, offering opportunities to discuss food systems challenges and how stakeholders can work together to alleviate global hunger and malnutrition.

“A part of Farm Journal Foundation’s core mission is to connect stakeholders across agriculture and drive important conversations about how to solve food systems challenges,” said Tricia Beal, Chief Executive Officer of Farm Journal Foundation. “We are thrilled to offer this fellowship program, in honor of Andy Weber, to connect students with leaders from across the global food system, who have such valuable knowledge and experience to impart.”

The Andrew J. Weber Global Food Security Fellows Program will kick off in 2024 with a cohort of students from the University of Minnesota and Auburn University’s Hunger Solutions Institute. As part of this program, Fellows will be provided with the opportunity to participate in an international event that focuses on global food security. This experience is intentionally structured to reinforce learning through a global lens while supporting young leaders to expand their professional networks.

“It’s very rewarding to see the Foundation working so effectively towards its mission of meeting the vital needs of a growing global population through agriculture,” Andy Weber said. “As we think about the future of our global food system, it’s always important to look to the next generation. It is exciting to see how young leaders are combining their passion for food security with new technologies that will transform our world.”

Andy Weber is a visionary leader with more than 40 years of executive experience in business-to-business media. From 2000 until his retirement in 2023, he was the CEO of Farm Journal Media, the country's leading agricultural media company, with print, television, radio, newsletter, database, internet, and live event properties and services. Prior to Farm Journal, Weber held senior executive positions with Reed Elsevier, Disney/ABC, and Thomson Reuters.

Weber has been a frequent media industry speaker and received numerous industry awards, including the Ag Future of America’s Leader In Agriculture Award for 2019, Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism’s 2012 McAllister Top Manager Fellowship, and Crain’s Media Business magazine Top CEO Innovator for 2011.

In 2010, Weber founded and still serves as chairman of the 501(c)3 Farm Journal Foundation, a significant public hunger charity promoting modern agriculture’s role in global food security, and in 2013 founded the Business Media Executive Network for B2B Information CEOs.
